Ten thousand people in the United States are turning sixty-five every day. In our area, the number of people over the age of sixty has increased almost 20% in the last two years. Thirty-seven percent of seniors report that they are currently being pitched by people calling or mailing them for money. Retired Americans have an estimated $15 trillion of investible income and about $3 billion a year transfers hands to criminals because of fraud and exploitation. With these staggering numbers, Trona Valley wants to help protect our seniors from financial exploitation and fraud.
During the month of June, Trona Valley will host presentations on risk factors of fraud and exploitation at local senior centers. Discussion topics include common scams and tactics used by fraudsters. Trona Valley will discuss things to watch and avoid to help you protect your identity and information. Presentations are available to anyone in our community, so please plan to attend. We believe that it is important for everyone to be aware of scams and we are dedicated to helping our community gain the knowledge to avoid them and learn where to get appropriate assistance if necessary. Let’s all help protect our seniors.
