TLS Update

TLS, or Transport Layer Security, is the protocol that secures communications between servers, computers, and mobile devices over the Internet. Many versions of related protocols, such as SSL, have been superseded and replaced over the years as vulnerabilities have been addressed in subsequent versions.

The most recent version, TLS 1.3, published in 2018, is widely used today. The older version, TLS 1.2, which debuted in 2008, is rarely used in practice by end users today. TLS 1.3 has been supported by modern browsers since 2021.

As a reminder, some older operating systems and devices, notably unsupported older versions of Windows 10, Android operating system versions older than version 10, and Apple iOS operating system versions older than 12.2, do not reliably support TLS 1.3.

Moving to TLS 1.3 is a smart long-term change as it’s faster, more secure, and removes weak encryption methods.
